Whenever I hear about a person in Mecklenburg, I immediately want to know where they lived, and see it on a map. Then I can remember the person better, because I associate them with a place. When someone talks to me about a Jones family, it helps me to know whether the Jones family lived at Lombardy Grove, Boydton, Chase City, or the Great Creek area of Bracey. I’ve been organizing all my research and pictures by locality the last few years. I’ve been modifying the website to be the same.
It’s been almost a year since I sent a post. I had some health problems to work through. Then I was in a serious car accident out of state, hospitalized a few weeks before I could travel home. Everything is much slower paced for me these days, and will be for awhile.
My husband and I have driven through much of the county during our last few visits. We looked for churches, old stores, schools, depots etc. to photograph and share on the website. I’m slowly adding these pictures to the area pages. I’m also converting older blog posts into pages, with improved charts. All pages and posts are being reworked with newer features and formatting I’ve been learning about. The surname index is now all on one page.
At the bottom of each page (see image above) there are blue numbered areas which are links to the area pages. (Any blue words are links.) I divided my map by numbered areas. I also have notes I’ll be adding to each area page about old schools, churches, post offices, etc.. I’ll send a brief post to notify when I feel a page is ready to share.
