Enslaved Individuals

Enslaved individuals did not have surnames in records. Instead, they were listed in their enslaver’s property records. Chancery cases, wills and deeds list enslaved individuals by their first name, and sometimes establish relationships between mothers and children. I’m working on making lists of names I see from court records. Those names will be added here to this page: Enslaved Laborers in Mecklenburg (still testing formatting)
